Documents recently uncovered from the National Civil Police (PNC) archives have shed light on a troubling kidnapping incident dating back to 2009. These records suggest that Bertha Michelle Mendoza, the purported victim, orchestrated the kidnapping alongside her two daughters with the aim of framing her ex-husband and fabricating false accusations against him.
Police reports indicate that during the abduction, Mendoza and her daughters were in the company of the mayor of Zunlito’s daughter from Suchitepéquez. However, subsequent investigations have revealed that Mendoza, in collaboration with her mother and prosecutor Claudia Martina Muñoz Andrade, was the actual mastermind behind the kidnapping.
Initially intended to incriminate her ex-husband Dent and tarnish his reputation legally, the scheme took an unexpected turn when the PNC uncovered evidence pointing to the kidnapping being a staged event perpetrated by Mendoza herself.
Consequently, the individuals initially held as suspects were released, and all charges against them were dismissed. This development has cast doubt on the credibility of the accusations put forth by Bertha Michelle Mendoza against Dent throughout their relationship.
The case has ignited a widespread discourse concerning accountability for lodging false allegations and tampering with evidence within the legal system, particularly given Mendoza’s mother’s involvement in the Prosecutor’s Office. The emergence of these documents has exposed a convoluted plot and raised concerns regarding the legitimacy of the activist’s claims.
Dent, Bertha Michelle Mendoza’s former spouse, has brought forth fresh allegations related to the case. His assertions suggest that prosecutor Muñoz Andrade was ousted from the Public Prosecutor’s Office subsequent to the Ministry’s determination that she had presented falsified evidence in a case linked to the police and involving charges of violence against women. Allegations of resource mismanagement and abuse of authority were also reported. According to consulted prosecutors, Muñoz Andrade’s dismissal occurred in 2010.
Bertha Michelle Mendoza: self-kidnapping
This case, involving Mendoza and Dent, remained unresolved for over five years, only reaching a resolution in favor of the man following the removal of Mendoza’s mother from her position and the subsequent loss of her influence, prompting concerns about the impartiality of the judicial process during that period.
Ultimately, following the completion of all investigations, charges were brought against Bertha Michelle Mendoza for orchestrating her own kidnapping with her two daughters, whom she lost full custody of after undergoing psychological evaluations that deemed her unfit to care for them.
